Shop thefts

Issued 05 October 2026

This year Cottingham has seen a general rise in shop theft. All the major stores have been targeted. The local policing team have been working closely with Shop watch and to identify and arrest offenders. This month the shops, Police and Councillors had a meeting with the local MP to see how we can work better to reduce offending.

The run up to Christmas generally sees a seasonal increase in offending and the local team will look to increase our visibility as much as possible as well as attend events such as the Cottingham Christmas Festival. Couple with this the team will be providing extra patrols at high footfall pre Christmas shopping times.
