Dear Resident,
Please be aware that Rogue Traders/Cold Callers have been operating in the Immingham area over the last week. We have received a report regarding a cold caller who knocked on the door of an elderly resident and told her that her front wall needed repointing and that he could do it at a certain price. The occupant spoke with her family and agreed to the work. During a separate visit the following day the “workman” convinced her that he could also replace some coping stones on top of the wall and also remove a small wooden fence. The occupant was in a rush to be somewhere so agreed to this work at another cost also and paid in cash up front.
Upon returning to her property later that day, the wood was strewn all over the pavement along with other mess and the little work that was carried out was to a very poor standard. The work was completely unfinished and he never returned, leaving the occupant with even more costs to remove the waste and replace all the poor work that had been completed.
Humberside Police receive many reports each year about Rogue Traders or Cold Callers trying to force people to buy things or pay for work to be completed. On many occasions it is the most vulnerable members of our community that are targeted.
Please read the below advice to assist in dealing with situations like this -
