Crime Alert - Cable Theft

Crime Alert - Cable Theft

Dear Residents,

Across the East Riding the Rural Task Force are seeing a substantive increase in the theft of copper cabling and we are urging residents, landowners, farmers and business owners to remain vigilant following reports of cable thefts across the East Riding.

Offenders have been targeting infrastructure belonging to the BT network, as well as solar and wind farm sites, stealing valuable cabling and causing significant disruption to services and operations.

These offences can result in:

-Loss of telephone and internet services

-Disruption to businesses and local communities

-Costly repairs and downtime for affected sites

-Safety risks to offenders and members of the public

Please be alert for any suspicious activity around telephone cabinets, utility infrastructure, solar farms, wind farms, construction sites or remote rural locations, particularly during hours of darkness.

Examples of suspicious behaviour may include:

-Unmarked vans or vehicles parked near infrastructure sites

-Individuals wearing high-visibility clothing without obvious identification

-Persons cutting, loading or removing cables

-Activity at isolated sites outside normal working hours

If you witness suspicious activity, please report it as soon as possible. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate threat to safety, call 999. For non-emergency information, contact 101 or report online via the Humberside Police website and ensure you tell the operator this is a rural crime.

Your information could help prevent further offences and identify those responsible.
