Information - Drone Exclusion Zones

Dear Resident,

We have recently been contacted by HMP Hull in relation to issues they are experiencing around drones being flown over the Prison. It has been highlighted that some of these drones may be being used to transport drugs into the prison grounds.

This is an offence under Section 40B Prison Act 1952 and may be punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment plus fines and costs.

Some of the drones reported may be innocent and being flown by enthusiasts or auditors however we would like to clear up that flying any unmanned drone over any prison is prohibited under the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Prisons) Regulations 2001. Flying a drone over any prison may result in the seizure of the drone and prosecution.

As local residents around the prison area, you are our eyes and ears and we ask that you report any suspected drone activity around HMP Hull to help us tackle those smuggling drugs into the prison grounds.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Hull East Neighbourhood Policing Team
