Vehicle Prevention Advice

Hello and good afternoon residents,

I just wanted to introduce myself PC Dan Mosley as your new neighbourhood beat officer alongside PC Dave CAVE who you all know and has been a part of the Haverstoe, Humberston & New Waltham ward for a long time. I look forward to being out and around the area in the coming days and weeks to engage with you all and discuss any questions, queries or concerns you may have. I would just like to say a massive well done to Dave, who as some of you may already know has passed his Sergeants exam last week. I congratulate Dave for his efforts and hard work in the area the past nearly ten years. Dave will continue to be a part of the team for the future, and I look forward to working alongside him and learning all about the area from him.

You may have seen on social media during my first couple of days in the area I have been involved in various upcoming projects. On Thursday I attended Mablethorpe Police station to speak to Lincolnshire Police about the Op Coastline project and what ideas we can collaborate along our beautiful coastline in the coming summer months. Additionally, I visited Louth Rural NPT team from Lincolnshire Police to discuss ongoing cross border related crime issues and how we can work together to problem solve these in the future working together as crime has no policing borders. On Friday myself and Dave arrested and dealt with an individual who was found to be in possession of a knife. The individual was taken to custody and charged with the offence; he has been bailed to attend court later this month. The weapon has now been seized and will be destroyed.

Finally, I would like to make you all aware of some ongoing matters in the area we are focusing on this month which includes Theft of Motor Vehicle and Theft from Motor Vehicle. I would just like to make residents aware of the vehicles that offenders seem to be targeting on a national trend are Ford Vehicles according to data. This is in addition to keyless entry vehicles which often tend to be high value and high-performance vehicles. There have been reports of recent suspicious activity and attempts to steal a motor vehicle on WALNUT CRESCENT, CLEETHORPES. The offenders were disturbed by the owner and made off without success- enquiries are ongoing around this. If you have any further information or CCTV that could assist, please contact us via telephone or online web portal.

I would encourage all residents to consider upgrading their target hardening and safety measures at their home address and within their personal vehicles. Here is a list of some of the basic ways to consider how to protect your car from theft related issues:

  • Report any incidents involving your vehicle or suspicious activity to police immediately via 999 systems if this is an ongoing crime in progress or via 101 systems if this incident is discovered some-time after the incident has happened and have information to pass- (Every victim and incident matters to us).
  • Be kind- and look after each other particularly vulnerable neighbours. We are stronger together as a community- Consider joining a local community watch group.
  • Lock your vehicle including closing all windows and doors- Make sure you check the handles and tail gate before you walk away.
  • Protect your car keys- Consider when at home keeping your car key (and the spare) well away from the car. Put the keys in a screened or signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag and check if the bag or pouch is still working every few months. Turn off wireless signals on your fob when it's not being used.
  • Use a steering wheel lock or tyre clamping locks- These prevent the vehicle being driven and are difficult to remove for criminals so will deter or prevent theft in most cases.
  • Motion lighting, CCTV and security cameras- Consider target hardening your address with CCTV and lighting or parking your vehicle near to these devices in public locations.
  • GPS tracking- Consider fitting a vehicle tracker device to the vehicle. Or an aftermarket additional security alarm system- If unsure contact your local garage or dealerships.
  • Park in the best places possible- This may include parking cars on the driveway parked closely together or locking any driveway gates. Or consider parking close to your address where you can see your vehicle but be mindful of road access and dropped curbs.
  • Put away valuables- Take these inside your house or place of work when you end your journey. If you own a van remove all tools and lock these safely inside your house, garage or place of work when finished working- do not leave these inside the vehicle on display.
  • Remove all important documentation- This includes logbooks, vehicle documents and do not leave your driving license in the glovebox.  Ensure DVLA records are up to date for keeper’s address and your driving license for us to contact you or reunite with your vehicle if this was to be stolen.
  • Lastly, don’t leave your car running- Always turn off the ignition and lock the car. This is especially relevant if you are a delivery driver.
  • Feel free to share this alert or rate this alert or repost to social media platforms. This is my first community alert so please expect many more in the future!

    Kind regards,

    Dan.
