Good Evening,
I hope you are well.
Please take a moment to read this message and pass any information on to your local businesses where able -
I just wanted to take the time to make you aware of a recent fraud which has been taking place within the local rural areas targeting car garages including mechanics, tire fitters and sales. The summary of the fraud is as follows:
The company mechanics, tire fitter, sales etc. will receive a phone call asking if the garages can get 4 tires for a BMW. The garage will in turn give the caller a price and availability for the tires. Once this information is passed over the caller will pay over the phone using a credit card in which the garage will then process and the card appears to go through although the money most the time is not fully clearing into the businesses account.
At this point all appears innocent until a number of days later Barclaycard calls the garage to say the credit card has been declined as the card is being used to scam. The card which is being used is not always the same card. The tires in which are been asked for are usually in the region of £1000.
The suspect in question is at this time using the same mobile number and name at each location and is also using the same white van. Unfortunately at this time due to GDPR I am unable to facilitate with these details.
Following the incident the suspect will then call/text the garage bragging to the fact that they have frauded the business out of £1000.
At this time it appears to be mainly rural locations which are being targeted, I have attached a poster and information leaflet directly from Action Fraud.
Contact details for Action Fraud as follows: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk or Monday to Friday 8am-8pm on 0300 123 2040.
Kind regards, PCSO Shane Moody Humberside Police Broughton & Scawby ward area.
