The Met Office has issued Amber and Yellow weather warnings for the Yorkshire and Humber area as Storm Éowyn sweeps across the UK. The storm is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 66 mph at it's peak at 12 pm on Friday 24 January, and is likely to cause travel disruption. For updates, monitor local radio and social media.

What to expect

The storm will arrive in the early hours of Friday morning:
 

Drivers should take extra care and plan journeys accordingly, allowing extra time. Falling debris in the road is highly likely

Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible, as well as some roads and bridges may close

Drivers of high-sided vehicles are urged to respect the restrictions given on the approaches to bridges and roads for their safety and that of other road users

Fallen trees and damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen

Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

On sea fronts, there is a chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

Keep your home safe

Make sure sheds, side gates, wheelie bins, and garden furniture are secured where possible to minimise the risk of damage

Items such as trampolines should be tied down or placed upside down to prevent them from tipping or being lifted by the strong winds

Businesses

Be mindful of the potential for outdoor tables, chairs, signage, or flags to cause damage to shopfronts or pose a risk to the public if not properly secured
