Increase in burglaries in your area

Dear Resident

As part of our crime mapping, we have identified an increase in the number of burglaries being committed in your area.

Whilst we are targeting the people who commit these offences, below are some easy options, that if put into practice can reduce the risk of you becoming a victim of this type of offence.

  • Ensure doors are locked (even when you are inside during the day)
  • Close windows when you aren't in the room.
  • Don't leave a key inside the door if there is a letterbox close to it
  • Don't leave anything valuable in a location where it can be seen from outside
  • Use additional locks on patio doors such as a Patlock.
  • At night, close curtains and consider leaving a light on.
  • Consider using a doorbell camera that will alert you if someone approaches your door.
  • Consider fitting dusk to dawn lighting outside your address.
  • Ensure that car keys are left out of sight, and nowhere near an entrance door.
  • Information to prevent burglaries and other crime prevention advice can be found on the secured by design website. here
