Bonfire Night

Dear Resident,

We hope you have a great bonfire night this evening. Whether you are at home, at the Winterton bonfire or any of the other displays near you, please see some of our tips below to help keep you and your family safe.

  • Never give sparklers to a child under five
  • When you are watching fireworks always stand well back
  • Fireworks will scare your pets, so keep them safely indoors
  • Only adults should light and hold fireworks
  • Never go near a firework when it has been lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off as it could still explode
  • If you are given a sparkler, always wear gloves and hold it at arm’s length
  • When a sparkler goes out DON’T TOUCH IT. It could still burn you, so put it in a bucket of water hot end down
  • You have to be 18 years old before you are allowed to buy fireworks in the shop
  • Never play with fireworks
  • If your children are going to an event with friends ensure you know where they are going and who with, and arrange a time for them to be home by
  • If you are attending an event with young children take a picture of the clothes they are wearing before you leave the house incase you get separated and need to find them
  • If you see something is wrong please report this to Humberside Fire and REscue- fireworks and bonfires can be dangerous if not done properly
  • If you are going out for celebrations, don’t make your home a target for a burglar. An opportunist thief will know that people will be out and leaving their homes empty. Leave a light on at home to make it look like someone’s in and NEVER leave valuables on display

Thank you, stay safe and enjoy your evening,

    Burton and Winterton NPT
