Spooky season safety.

In the lead up to Halloween and Bonfire night, and in particular the October half term holidays, we always see an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour caused by children.

As a local policing team, we work closely with the schools to identify children involved in any anti social behaviour reported.

We would like to appeal to parents across Scunthorpe and ask them “Do you know where your children are and what they are up to?” when they are not with you.

Has your child come home smelling of smoke (possibly from lighting bonfires),have you had matches/lighters go missing from inside your home? These are all things to look out for which could indicate they have been involved in anti-social activities/crime.

Please educate your children regarding staying safe and the effects that anti-social behaviour has on people.

Please be aware that during Bonfire Night and the nights running up to it, calls to police, especially in relation to ASB, can be significantly higher than normal. This may increase the call answering times so please be aware of this. THINK do you really need to call the police? Please consider if it is the police you really need and just how important is it?

To try and prevent any fires which may cause danger to the public or if you see any unofficial prepared bonfires/stacks of wood in areas where they shouldn’t be these can be reported to North Lincolnshire Council who will come and collect them.

Thank you, stay safe and don’t become a victim of crime
