Force Control Room exceeds National Average call handling times


Each month on average, our state-of-the-art, purpose-built Force Control Room receives thousands of emergency 999 and non-emergency 101 calls.

Last month, we answered 94.57% of 999 calls within the national target of 10 seconds, with an average speed of answer of 5.3 seconds and 94.5% of non-emergency 101 calls within the national target of 30 seconds with an average of 6 seconds.

Our Contact Officers and Dispatchers have one of the most important roles in policing working under pressure staying calm to reassure the public for all 999 emergency and 101 non-emergency calls whilst deploying police officers across Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Chief Superintendent Tracy Bradley from our Force Control Room said: “Over the course of the last five years our force control room has been on a real journey, going from strength to strength to enhance the service we provide to residents across our communities.

“We are delighted to have been recognised as one of the best police control rooms in the country and it is a real testament to all our dedicated control room staff who have worked really hard to get us here.

“Our Switchboard Operators and Contact Officers are the first point of contact for members of the public. They are the voice you hear when you call us. They are experts at obtaining information quickly and accurately and getting the incidents to the right area for further action.

“Our Dispatchers manage many incidents at one time. They deploy officers whilst simultaneously conducting checks, operating the radios, and keeping their eye on the next incident coming in. They are the ultimate multi-taskers.

“Our Crime Contact Officers are there to obtain accurate details and record crimes, ensuring that victims of crime receive an outstanding service.

“Whilst the Force Control Room is where the calls come in, there is a huge team supporting several functions. We have our Police National Computer (PNC) Team, ANPR team, Designated Decision Makers, Crime Data Admin Officers, Domestic Abuse Coordination Team (DACT), Conviction Services, a Force Control Room Support Team, a team of Supervisors and a team of Force Incident Managers.

“We are one team, under one roof and work together keeping the public at the heart of everything we do. We understand what is important to the public and answer them quickly, deal with the call proficiently & we are there when they need us most.”
