Hate Crime Awareness Week 12 – 19 October 2024

This week is Hate Crime Awareness Week – a national week of action to encourage local authorities, key partners and communities affected by hate crime to work together to tackle local hate crime issues.

It’s an opportunity to raise awareness of hate crimes and to encourage victims to report them to us. Anyone can be a victim of hate crime, which can include physical assault, threats and intimidation.

In 2024, the theme for National Hate Crime Awareness Week is ‘in solidarity with those affected by homophobic hate crime targeted towards the LGBT+ community’.

As part of our ongoing campaign to raise awareness,  a video has been created with the support of five people from our force area who have shared their experience of being targeted for just being who they are, saying with a collective voice “If you are a victim of a hate crime, report it to the police”

Please remember you can report a hate crime, including online hate crime through our online reporting form or you can call us on our non-emergency 101 line.

Always call 999 in an emergency.

“Being you is not a crime. Targeting you is.”
